Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has said that he wants to remain with the London club for a number of years. Didier Drogba has been linked with a move elsewhere in the summer after failing to agree a contract with Chelsea so far. Even though wages do not seem to be a problem, the contract length has been the source of many issues between the two parties concerned. It is thought that a Didier Drogba is keen on stressing the fact that he began playing at the top level only when he was 24 years old. As a result, Drogba believes that he can continue to the top level for at least three more years, which Chelsea naturally do not seem to agree.
Drogba is currently 34 years old and Chelsea are looking to bring down the age of their squad. The average age of the Chelsea squad is currently 27 years, which is extremely high when compared with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, whose squad is averaging around 24 years. Drogba, Frank Lampard, and Florent Malouda are the players under the threat from the axe of manager Andre Villas-Boas. Drogba, though, is confident that he can stay with Chelsea past this season as well.
“I’m really happy where I am. I belong to Chelsea. For me, that’s what matters. Everyone knows I want to stay in blue and everybody knows I love the club and the fans,” Didier Drogba said when asked about his future. There have been reports that Drogba could be set for a move to China in very much a similar fashion to the move former Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka completed only a few months ago. If Drogba makes such a move, it would make him the highest-paid player in the world at £ 400,000 per week.
