Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has celebrated the ninth year anniversary of the first and only UEFA Champions League (UCL) title at the club till date. Didier Drogba was a major actor as Chelsea saw off German Bundesliga club Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final to win the competition.
Chelsea were on their way to losing a second Champions League final in four years before the timely intervention of Didier Drogba. The Blues had lost their first Champions League final to Manchester United on penalties. The two teams contested the 2008 Champions League final in Moscow and they had to be separated via penalties after playing out a 1-1 draw.
Chelsea had trailed in their second Champions League final in Munich thanks to the late goal from German international Thomas Mueller before the bullet header from Drogba forced extra time.
Bayern Munich dominated possession for large parts of the game but met a resilient Chelsea. Goalkeeper Petr Cech also had a major role to play after saving the penalty from Dutchman Arjen Robben in extra time to suggest that the day might finally belong to the Blues. In the end, Drogba scored the winning penalty during the dreaded shootout to take his team to the title.
